A variety of conditions factor into our decision to upgrade infrastructure, including the age and general condition of equipment, plus its history of reliability. The criticality of load, like if the equipment supplies power to a hospital or emergency facility, is also a factor in an effort to maintain public safety. We also assess the cost it takes to maintain the infrastructure versus upgrading it, choosing the most economical option. Lastly, as a member of the Southwest Power Pool, we can receive a Notification to Construct from the organization for various reasons, including to maintain reliability across our region. Utilities that receive a Notification to Construct a project are required to build that project.
